Publicist needed
Theatre Aurora’s Playwrights of Spring Festival is looking for a Publicist.
Job Description:
This is a four month, paid, non-union contract position starting February 1st, 2008, with a majority of the workload happening the month prior to and during the run of the "Playwrights of Spring Festival", April 3 – 19, 2008. This position is responsible for the overall management of publicity and marketing of the festival and individual shows within it. The position will require the development of relationships with local and regional media, and the creation of many marketing and media materials (including press kits and press releases). The publicist will also be required to report on all of their activities up to and during the festival.
Requirements:
The position requires someone with knowledge and some experience in theatrical publicity, while providing that person with an opportunity to further develop skills, and gain experience in the professional world. It would be an excellent opportunity for someone who has recently finished his or her education in this field. The appropriate candidate has to be well organized, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to create a media plan for the festival, fundraisers, and volunteer workshops. The publicist will also be required to develop and maintain relationships with various media representatives and develop a strong working relationship with everyone involved in the festival.
The position will also be required to buy advertising, distribute posters, flyers and other marketing materials, create programs, and provide assistance as reasonably requested with related duties.
Additional Information:
This position will also require the training of volunteers/apprentices, and the teaching of at least one workshop on theatre publicity. The publicist will also be required to attend all media related events.
